TURA: The Tikrikilla PHC in West Garo Hills which is catering to a large population of the region, has come under the scanner with several local organisations alleging various irregularities in its functioning as well as the lack of many basic facilities in the hospital.
Organisations from the region including the AYWO, AAYF, AIGU, FKJGP, FAF, ASWA and ADE along the with the Mothers’ Union recently conducted a spot inspection of the hospital where it was found that it was lacking in many basic facilities like First Aid, TT injections, bed sheets and mosquito nets besides others. The visit also revealed foul smell emanating from the nearby toilet making it unbearable for the patients.
Further inspection also revealed that there were only two staff nurses attending to patients while certain staffs were found to be neglecting their duties.
“We have come to know that the LDA at the PHC is not attending her duties in time and many people who come for various works like obtaining birth certificates, death certificates etc have to come again and again. The medical officer who is needed at all times is also not staying at her official quarter allotted to her. She is required to be at her station so that she can coordinate with the staff and facilitate service to the public,” the organisations alleged.
According to the organisations, the 108 Ambulance provided for the PHC is also not functioning due to lack of maintenance by the hospital authorities.
While expressing dissatisfaction over the overall pitiable situation in the hospital, the organisations have also demanded the transfer of the existing LDA and to enhance the man power in the maternity ward.
