NITI Forum for NE meet in Guwahati on Dec 4

GUWAHATI: Issues pertaining to five critical sectors of the region will be the main focus of the second meeting of the NITI Forum for North East here on December 4.
The sectors comprise tourism, bamboo, dairy, fisheries and tea.
NITI Aayog vice chairman, Rajiv Kumar will chair the meeting while minister of state (in charge) for DoNER, Jitendra Singh will be the co-chair.
Besides the members of the forum, several experts and representatives from the government, industry and academia have been invited to the meeting, an official statement issued here on Saturday, said,
The ‘NITI Forum for North East’ was constituted in February this year with the objective to periodically review the development status in the region.
The forum is tasked to identify various constraints on the way of accelerated, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the Northeast and to recommend suitable interventions for addressing identified constraints.
Members of the forum include secretaries of various ministries of the government of India, chief secretaries of all the eight north-eastern states and also senior government officials and experts from various fields. The secretary, North East Council (NEC) is the member secretary of the forum.
The forum’s first meeting was held in Agartala on April 10, 2018, during which a wide spectrum of issues was discussed. It emerged from the deliberations that infrastructure, horticulture, bamboo, tourism, food processing, education, livelihoods, health and the concept of “Made in North Eastern region” were areas critical for the development of the region.
Decisions taken at the meeting have since been carried forward by various government departments and other stakeholders.
