MAWKYRWAT: Mawkyrwat MLA and Chairman of Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (MIDC), Renikton L. Tongkhar on Monday called upon the farmers to be proud of their works so that they can grow and one day can contribute to the fight against unemployment.
Speaking as chief guest during the Livestock Mela organised by the office of the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer at the Community Hall, Makyrwat, Tongkhar expressed happiness to know that more and more farmers in the district have taken farming as livelihood activities.
He also hoped that the Livestock Mela will not end in lecture and reports but will also inspire the farmers to increase the production. “I hope that one day the people will send their children to school to study about farming and when they came back, they will help them in improving the business,” he added.
Tongkhar also inspired farmers to continue with the organic farming so that it will not affect the environment. He also suggested to the Department to give awards and certified those farmers who continue with the organic farming as to encourage them.
The department also awarded four farmers of the district, namely Shringly Wanniang from Pynden Mawthawiang on piggery, Holder Mawlieh from Wahsiej village in poultry, Edward Kharwar from Diwah Shatmoit on goatery and Simion Marwein from Jakrem village on dairy.
