Midnight swim on Dec 31
SHILLONG: The Forever Young will be organising the 22nd Midnight Swim on December 31 at Crinoline Pool to welcome the New Year 2019. In a statement issued here, the president of Forever Young said four tones of ice will be put inside the pool for the occasion. He has requested participants to not take any kind of intoxicants during the programme otherwise the challenge of the function will be lost. It is organised with the objective of praying to the Almighty for strength to face the challenges of the New Year.
No Sumo on January 2
Mawkyrwat: The Mawkyrwat Area Maxi Cab Owner And Drivers Association (MAMCODA) informed that there will be no Sumo service from Mawkyrwat to Shillong on January 2, 2019. MAMCODA General Secretary YG Lyngdoh said that since there will be a general meeting cum picnic of the association on January 2 at Mawkyrwat from 9 am onwards therefore there will be no Sumo service on the said day. The associaition also send their New Year wishes to the people under Mawkyrwat area.
Coal trucks detained
SHILLONG: Residents of Soksan village in North Garo Hills on December 24 detained three coal laden trucks having Assam registration for transporting coal without valid documents. These trucks (AS-19C-5259, AS-19C-6179 & AS-19C-0575) driven by Mahanta Sutradhar, Raj Kumar Chauhan and Komol Rai respectively. The drivers were were handed over to Mendipathar Police for necessary action.
Book released
Shillong: Health minister A L Hek released a book written by Rev. Fr. Breson Paul Ranee, entitled Ki Sohkyrdot ki Samla on Thursday. The book is written on the problems and dilemma of the youths today. The author tries to give some suggestions on how to deal with these dilemmas. The book is available at Pauline Books & Media Centre, Laitumkhrah; Khasi Book Stall, Room No. 38 Synod Complex; and from Sacred Heart Shrine Parish, Nongmensong. It was released in the presence of B Khonglah the Headman of Nongmensong, secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council D. Marbaniang and other dignitaries.
