Guwahati: Indian Railway’s attempt to close down an old Assamese medium school run by it in Assam has not gone down well with the outlawed United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA anti-talks).

The UFA faction on Wednesday warned the Railway authorities stop its initiative to close down any of the Assamese Medium schools run by it in any part of Assam and warned of dire consequences if the latter failed to comply with the appeal of the outfit.

In a statement e-mailed to the media here by the central publicity wing of the outfit registered its strong opposition to Railway authorities’ notification announcing its decision to close down the old Assamese medium primary school at Hijuguri in Tinsukia district of Assam.

Opposing the Railway move the ULFA stated, “In case the Railways close down the Assamese medium school at Tinsukia, its adverse consequences will have to be faced by Hindi and Bengali medium schools run by the Railways in different parts of Assam.”

The militant group stated that it would be prudent on part of the railway to rather focus on improving infrastructure of all Assamese medium schools under it otherwise it would have to face its consequences.

“The ULFA will now allow Railway to succeed in its conspiracy to close down Assamese medium schools and promote schools in other languages from colonial Indian state,” the statement added.
