Dibrugarh: A tea garden manager in Assam’s Dibrugarh district claimed that a tiger was killed and eaten on Wednesday by labourers and villagers, which was disputed by forest officials.
Manager, Ghograjan Tea Estate, K C Das claimed that a tiger was captured by labourers and villagers of Phutaphola and Chagalikata. It was thereafter rumoured that the tiger was eaten by the labourers and villagers. Superintendent of Police, Arabindo Kalita said “people are saying that the tiger was captured and eaten, but they are not saying who did it. We are ascertaining the facts.” Range Officer Jiten Bora said that Das has been summoned to record his statement.
“It is highly unlikely it was a tiger.” DFO Vaibhav Mathur told PTI in Kolkata:
“As of now the information seems to be baseless to us as we have not found anything from the spot.” He said that it was likely that if any animal was killed it would be a leopard. (PTI)
