SHILLONG: The state government was asked to provide compensation to the families of the three local miners believed to be trapped inside a rat-hole mine for 22 days at Ksan in East Jaintia Hills.
In a statement issued here, the president of East Jaintia National Council (EJNC) central executive council Sambormi Lyngdoh said poverty forced the victims to take up coal mining despite the ban by the National Green Tribunal.
The three local miners trapped are Melambok Dkhar (22), Dimonme Dkhar (20) and Shalabas Dkhar (20).
On the other hand, the EJNC argued that the opposition Congress should not take advantage of the situation and should instead play “a proactive role” in finding a solution to the problem and not faults.
