SHILLONG: A bomb scare in the city sent public into a tizzy after a suitcase was found lying abandoned in local taxi at Motphran on Friday evening.
The unclaimed suitcase was spotted by a local taxi driver of a vehicle (ML-05 D 3620) Jerry Dkhar who immediately informed the police suspecting that it might contain explosives.
According to the driver, the suitcase was left in his cab by a passenger.
The police along with the bomb squad arrived at the spot which was cordoned off immediately. The police had to clear the area and control the traffic because of the chaos after rumours spread that the suitcase had a bomb inside it.
The bomb disposal squad which opened the suitcase recovered only some clothes.
The owner of the suitcase has not been traced.
