SHILLONG: Former BJP leader and MDC Sofior Rahman, who recently resigned from the saffron party as a mark of protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, has predicted that the move of the BJP to enforce the bill “will cost them dearly in the North East in the upcoming Lok Sabha election”.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, Rahman said this bill is against the indigenous people and the BJP will not win in the entire North East.
Asked if he has decided to join any other party, Rahman said he is in alliance with the NPP at the GHADC and has not decided yet.
Earlier in his letter to BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh, Rahman had cited personal problems for leaving the party while also opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
It was also informed that West Garo Hills BJYM president Ataur Rahman Ahmed also tendered his resignation on Monday expressing his opposition to the CAB.
Rahman said all the members and the entire unit of the BJYM and minority morcha from West Garo Hills will resign en masse in a day or two.
The BJP, apart from losing AGP as its alliance partner, has also lost some of its leaders in the North East who have resigned following the passing of the contentious bill in the Lok Sabha.
