SHILLONG: It is more than a month since 13  coal miners got trapped inside an illegal coal mine at Ksan in East Jaintia Hills and since then all efforts to rescue them have not yielded any positive results.

As the rescue operations have not resulted in any positive outcome, the big question is how long the rescue operations will continue?

Speaking on the matter, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday said, “ Experts are on the field. We will ultimately hear from them and they have not said anything as of now.”

Lamenting that the results of the rescue operations are not as expected despite the best efforts from the Government, he said that the recent disaster in the coal mine in East Jaintia hills was not an isolated case in the state and similar disasters had taken place around the world

Stating that the Government alone should not be blamed over the incident, he also said that he was neither blaming previous MUA or the incumbent MDA government over the incident

He also stated that the Government had instructed all the District SPs and DCs to be more proactive and simply seized the coal mine and arrest the people who are involved in illegal coal mining

He,however, maintained that coal mining sometimes took place  in very interior places and it was difficult for the administration to keep a check on such activities.
