Meghalaya govt nurses submit demands to health secretary

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Government Nursing Service Association (MGNSA) submitted a memorandum to the state health secretary Pravin Bakshi  airing the grievances of nursing services in the state.

The association requested the government for granting higher pay scale for nurses, segregation of pay scale for diploma holder and degree holder, incentives for attaining higher, amendment of study leave.

They demanded the government to notionally enhanced the pay scale of general nursing and midwifery to Rs 37,800 per month (level-11) and B.Sc nursing to Rs 39400 per month (level 12).

The association has also proposed for rural allowance to the nurses serving in rural areas like Community Health Centers (CHCs) and Public Health Centers (PHCs).

The proposal to expedite the creation of Joint Director Nursing and Registrar was also demanded by the association as the creation of such a post will ensure smooth functioning of the nursing services in the state.

Pointing to the need to come up with more posts of staff nurses, the association said the state of Meghalaya has a shortfall of more than 3000 nurses.
