SHILLONG: A delegation of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) members from Laban Circle demanded that there should be a limit on issuing trading licence to non-tribals in Laban Pyllun.
The union recently met Executive Member (EM) of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council Latiplang Kharkongor and also had a meeting with eight Dorbars of Laban Pyllun to discuss the matter.
In an RTI filed by Reuben A. Najiar, it was revealed that trading licences issued in Laban are 209 in numbers, Bishnupur- 38, Kenche’s Trace, Oxford, Rilbong-56 and the total comes to 325 by taking into account Lumparing and Madan Laban. The union has also sought Kharkongor’s intervention to check the trading licences of non-tribals in Laban Pyllun.
Kharkongor assured the union that no new trading licence will be issued and added that a meeting will be held with the Dorbars Pyllun.
Earlier, KSU has agitated against many organisations both government and non-government over the issuance of trading license.
