NONGSTOIN: The NPP MDC candidate from Nongstoin, Apsharailang Syiem, along with the MLA Macmillan Byrsat on Monday licked off the election campaign from Nongpyndeng village a place where the party has secured maximum vote in the last general election.
More than 300 supporters attended the rally.
“As the people of Nongpyndeng supported NPP in the last election, I hope this time too they will support the party,” said Syiem.
Syiem pointed out that for many decades, the district council branch in Nongstoin was neglected. “There is only one department that is the professional tax where many more branches are still in Shillong. If the EC is led by the NPP many more branches will be opened in Nongstoin creating employment opportunities,” he added.
Other issues that he focused on are preserving customary practices of Khasi matrilineal society, customary law, ownership of land, and strengthening the forest act.
Syiem thanked the leaders representing primary units, youth and women fronts and said as they have chosen him, “so let’s us work hard and take responsibility to make the party reach the goal”.
