BSF football tourney held

SHILLONG: Border Security Force organized a series of civic action programme at Umkiang and Rongra training ground on January 25 and 26.
As part of Civic Action Programme, which the BSF has been organising in all border areas of the state, the 97 Bn organised a football tournament at Umkiang, where youths from bordering villages under East Jaintia Hills participated at the tournament.
H S Rawat, Commandant distributed sports kits to all participants, besides various basic essentials items like water storage tank, computer, water filter, solar light and multimedia among others were also distributed to schools and community centres.
Another similar programme was also organised by 141 Battalion on January 24 at Rongra training ground of BOP Rongra and Baghmara under Sector Shillong by D. Thomsong, 2IC.
He was accompanied by officers and jawans where over 280 locals, including the OC of Rongra Police station DB Barman, nokmas of several villages, teachers and students attended the programme.
During the programme, six station multi gym, sports items, water filters, carpentry tools and stationary items were distributed to the villagers.
The villagers expressed their gratitude for the programme.
