SHILLONG: KHADC chief executive member H S Shylla, who quit NPP on Friday, cited ideological differences in his resignation letter addressed to state party president WR Kharlukhi.
“I tender my resignation from the primary and active membership of the National People’s Party (NPP) due to incompatible ideology where the interest of the Khasi-Jaintia is not being served by the policies and leadership of the party,” Shylla said in his resignation letter.
When contacted, Shylla said on Sunday the NPP leadership, especially Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, is not bothered to implement ILP that was approved by the KHADC.
“The KHADC is an autonomous body. The government should have respected the bills passed by the council and allowed the governor to approve the same,” he said.
According to Shylla, lineage and clan bills are also pending with the government.
Shylla said the pressure groups will call another round of public rally to put pressure on the government to implement ILP in the state.
The KHADC CEM reiterated his decision not to contest council, Assembly and Lok Sabha polls in future.
Earlier on Saturday, Shylla made the announcement to quit politics during the first meeting of the clan leaders under the banner Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SRKBH).
According to Shylla, he will continue to raise issues concerning the people of the state in his new role.
Shylla had distanced himself from active politics in the past only to successfully contest the KHADC bypoll in 2016 from Nongkrem.
He asserted that despite pressure from various quarters, he decided not to engage in active politics.
