SHILLONG: The state BJP leadership is in a dilemma over putting up candidates for the KHADC-JHADC polls in the context of the current unrest over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
While other political parties have announced their candidates for the February 27 polls and started filing nominations, the BJP is yet to release the names of candidates.
Party sources said the state leadership is waiting for nod from the central BJP leaders in this matter.
However, BJP minister AL Hek had earlier said the party should put up candidates for all elections.
Sources said protests against CAB coupled with several leaders leaving the party have demoralised the state leadership.
To a question, Hek said the issues like CAB will not affect the poll prospects of the party. “These issues cannot translate into votes even if the opponents use them during the poll campaigns,” Hek added.
