Sonowal inaugurates Assam’s 6th Engineering College

GUWAHATI: Sixth Engineering College in Assam was inaugurated chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal at Golaghat on Tuesday.

The College built at a cost of Rs. 46.68 crore on a sprawling 110 bigha of land, has civil, mechanical and chemical engineering branches in the curriculum. The college has an intake capacity of 180. The college started its academic activities from 2018 with 92 students.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that with the inauguration of the college the long pending need for an engineering college in Golaghat has been fulfilled.

Chief Minister Sonowal also said that a section of the people were hell bent in creating disturbances in the society in the pretext of the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

He at the same time maintained that Government of Assam is committed to safeguard the interests of the indigenous people of the state.

He however said that ever since the BJP led Government has come to power in the state, it took several initiatives for the welfare of the local people of the state.

He mentioned that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs announced Rs 22,594 crore for capacity augmentation of Numaligarh Refinery from the existing 3 Million Metric Tonne Per Annum (MMTPA) to 9 MMTPA. This will augur well in creating an enabling environment for the engineers of the state.

He also said that petroleum products from the NRL would be sent to Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Stating that Government can play the role of facilitator and create infrastructure, he emphasised on the need that teachers and parents should motivate the students.

Terming 21st century as a century of competition, he asked the young generation to keep themselves abreast of the scientific developments taking place across the globe and march-ahead to prove their skill in the present world order.
