SHILLONG: Two female candidates from People’s Democratic Front (PDF) have filed their nominations on Thursday, sitting MDC from Mylliem, Teilinia Thangkhiew and newbie Amanda Annette Pakyntein.
Thangkhiew along with Laban-Mawprem PDF candidate, Frederick Lynshiang was accompanied by PDF MLA from Mylliem and Cabinet Minister, Hamlet Dohling.
While another Cabinet minister and MLA from Mawkynrew, Banteidor Lyngdoh accompanied his wife, Pakyntein and another PDF candidate from Nongkrem, Melamshuwa Rynjah.
Speaking to reporters, Thangkhiew expressed confidence of becoming an MDC once again and quit the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) as she saw better opportunity to serve the public through PDF.
Commenting on the District Council, she said that the codification of himas and finalisation of Land bill is her priority.
Meanwhile, Pakyntein said “I have confidence in the people who have elected him.”
Dohling expects the 15 candidates from KHADC to emerge victorious. While for Mylliem constituency he said, “Much development is needed and MDC and MLA should work together.”
On the other hand, Lyngdoh said the party had fielded candidates who would remain loyal to the party, at a time when threat of defection still created an atmosphere of discomfort in the District Council.
