SHILLONG: Former Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) PN Syiem on Thursday filed in his nomination as an NPP candidate for the Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah constituency.
Syiem formerly represented Mawsynram constituency and later moved to Ranikor constituency to unsuccessfully contest the by-poll.
“I am not new to Pynthorumkhrah constituency. Every election is a challenge even if it is contesting from the same constituency. I have had the intention of standing from Pynthorumkhrah constituency for a very long time,” he said.
As with every election, he told reporters that electoral fight is imminent but has expressed confidence in the people of the constituency.
) Commenting on Pyniaid Sing Syiem being elected as the Parliamentary Party (PP) leader overlooking PN Syiem’s seniority, he said: “PP leader is to be elected only after the election is over.”
However, he was quick to add that Pyniaid was probably elected for the old term.
The former KHADC CEM will be competing against other candidates including former People’s Democratic Front (PDF) colleague and sitting MDC James Ban Basaiawmoit and Rocky Hek who is also the nephew of BJP minister AL Hek.
