PM Modi arrives in Guwahati on Friday evening for N-E visit

Guwahati: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi arrived  here this evening to undertake a day-long trip of the region to attend engagements in Itanagar, Guwahati and Agartala on February 9.

The PM  was accorded warm welcome  at the airport here by Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma , Chief Secretary Alok Kumar and Director General of Police, Kuladhar Saikia.

Meanwhile, a security blanket has been thrown all over Guwahati city  because of the PM’s visit. There has been heavy deployment of police and paramilitary force personnel especially along the routes the PM was going to take within the city.

All the vendors on the pavements have been removed while the markets including the daily wholesale fish market along the route to the Governor House has been ordered to remain closed for the next two days by the administration here.

While BJP workers formed human chain along the route of the PM from airport to Governor House waving party flags and shouting slogans like Narendra Modi Jindabad , Bharat Mata Ki Jai, a group of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) members waved black flags from inside the AASU head office , Swahid Bhawan at Latasil in protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 that has been passed in Lok Sabha by the BJP-led NDA government.
