SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has thanked the Congress MPs and other opposition MPs who stood strongly against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016.

A statement by the MPCC said that following the BJP Government’s failure to table the Bill in the Upper House of the Parliament, the MPCC termed the development as victory of the people of Meghalaya and the Northeast as a whole.

The MPCC felt that without the people’s support and NGOs of the Northeast it would not have been achieved.

The MPCC expressed its profound thanks to party leadership, party functionaries and civil society groups in defeating the designs of the BJP Government in forcing the Bill in Rajya Sabha.

The Party hoped that in future the people as well as the NGOs would come forward in strength to defend any ulterior motives or intent to bring such kind of anti-people Bill that would affect the interest of the indigenous people in the Northeast and Meghalaya in particular.
