SHILLONG: With the commissioning of the first phase of the Myntdu-Leshka Hydro Electric project (MLHEP), the second unit is expected to be commissioned within this month.

Talking to The Shillong Times on Sunday, Chief Project Manager Elias Lyngdoh said, “We had planned to complete the second project within this month and we are well within time.”

It is learnt that the spinning of the second unit is already over besides the mechanical testing has also come to an end.

“We will start the electrical testing now,” he added.

According to Lyngdoh, the Myntdu-Leshka project is the only one in the North East which is contributing power in the 11th Plan.

Meanwhile, reacting to a query on the cost escalation of the project, Lyngdoh said, “Why people don’t understand that the third unit was added to the project leading to the cost escalation.”

The Chief Project Manager also asserted that they have targeted to complete the third and final unit of the project within July.
