SHILLONG: The Access Control System (ACS), which was installed in the State Secretariat recently, is expected to become operational within this month.

Talking to The Shillong Times here on Sunday, Principal Secretary, SAD, P Naik said, “We are sure that the machines will be run on trial basis by the later part of this month.”

The process of installing the ACS machines started way back in November last year but till date the machines have not become functional. Once the system is installed, the employees will be issued a particular smart card which they have to tap into the ACS to gain access into the Secretariat building.

‘We are preparing the cards to be issued to the employees,” Naik said.

Once the ACS becomes operational, unauthorized entry will become a thing of the past once the ACS machines are installed at the Secretariat.

Media persons and Secretariat employees and other casual workers will be issued biometric cards once the system is installed. Besides, visitors will also be provided with these cards which would remain valid for a few hours or at most a full day.
