SHILLONG: With voting for the KHADC and JHADC polls just 24 hours away, the major political parties contesting the MDC elections are optimistic that they will form the new executive council in both the autonomous district councils.
NPP senior leader, Prestone Tynsong on Monday said, “ You take my word, the NPP will form the new EC in both KHADC and JHADC with the support of our partners.”
Echoing similar views, UDP senior leader, Allan Dkhar too said that the party was going to form the new EC in both the councils along with NPP
“ I am confident that we will win the elections,” he said.
On the other hand Congress leader and party candidate from Mylliem, Ronnie V Lyngdoh said that in KHADC, the party would single handedly form the EC on its own
He, however, said that he had no information about the trends in JHADC since he was not following the elections there.
Meanwhile, the campaigning for the elections ended on Monday evening and on the last day, all the contesting candidates showed their strength by organising massive rallies and processions in different constituencies.
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Councils (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils (JHADC) election is scheduled on February 27. The urban areas in Khasi and Jaintia Hills saw low-key campaigning as compared to the rural pockets.
There are altogether 101 candidates contesting the polls.
The National People’s Party (NPP), United Democratic Party (UDP), People’s Democratic Front (PDF), Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), Congress and Independents are the contenders.
