National Lok Adalat on March 9
Shillong/JOWAI/Tura: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority, Shillong under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, will hold the National Lok Adalat on all subject matter for the year 2019 on March 9 in the High Court of Meghalaya, District Courts, District Council Courts, Sub-Divisional Courts, Deputy Commissioner’s office etc. Any person or party receiving the Lok Adalat NOTICE may appear personally before the Lok Adalat benches for settlement of their dispute amicably. In Jowai, the National Lok Adalat on all subject matters will be held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Judicial Branch on March 9 from 10 am onwards. In Tura, it will also be held on March 9 in the District and Sessions Court premises, Tura at 10 am.
Investiture ceremony
Shillong: The Investiture ceremony of Hill View Secondary School for the academic year 2019-20 was held in the school assembly hall on Tuesday. Abhishek Gurung and Sabina Gurung were selected as head boy and head girl, the house captains, vice captains, discipline captains and all prefects were the other members of the student council. The students were given sash and badges by Chief guest, Major Geeta Mahadik and principal Arpita Majumdar of the school.
NEIGRIHMS, state sign MoU for urban health centre
SHILLONG: The state government and NEIGRIHMS signed an MoU on Wednesday to set up an urban health centre at Nongmensong. PW Ingty, the Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, signed the MoU on behalf of the state government in presence of Health Minister AL Hek and Health Secretary Pravin Bakshi at the office of the minister. The health centre will be managed by NEIGRIHMS.
Eklavya model residential school launched in SWGH
TURA: GHADC CEM Dipul R Marak on behalf of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma laid the foundation stone for the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) on Wednesday at Boldamgre, eight kilometers from Ampati in South West Garo Hills. EMRS is a central scheme sanctioned to establish quality residential schools that stresses on the promotion of education of the tribal people. Addressing the gathering, GHADC CEM Dipul R Marak thanked the Nokma for generously donating land for the school. He also informed that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs sanctioned Rs.43.64 crores for this project.The CEM urged the gathering to work together in securing the future of their children.
Criminal gang member surrenders in NGH
TURA: A member of the A’chik National Liberation Central Army (ANLCA), who deserted the outfit and remained absconding, has reportedly surrendered before North Garo Hills police on Tuesday. Salman S Sangma (28) alias Gaon, son of Keneth Arengh of Nengringgre under Rongjeng Police Station in East Garo Hills, surrendered before North Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, S R Marak, and other police officials at Kharkutta Police Station in the presence of his family. Salman was earlier also arrested after he was caught extorting from a citizen. However, after serving jail term for two-and-a-half years, he was released on bail on August 4, 2016 and since had been absconding. Salman’s surrender comes after his family members contacted Church leaders who counseled him and persuaded him to give himself up.
Centre to help women victims of violence launched
Nongpoh/TURA: The One Stop Centre, a centrally-sponsored scheme under the Ministry of Women and Child Development which aims at providing integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence both in private and public spaces, was inaugurated in Ri Bhoi district on Monday. Speaking as the Chief Guest, deputy commissioner R M Kurbah cited increasing number of cases of crimes against women and children. She informed that the objective of the centre is to secure and provide the best services to all women affected by violence and to facilitate immediate emergency and non-emergency services, including medical, legal, psychological and counseling support. She said that the centre will support all women, including girls below 18 years of age.
In Tura, the centre was launched at Ampati in South West Garo Hills on Monday. The centre will function temporarily from the premises of DMHO’s office near Ampati Police Station. A similar centre was also launched at Dilma, Mendipathar, under Resubelpara in North Garo Hills district on the same day. Speaking as the Chief Guest, deputy commissioner S C Sadhu said the One Stop Centre is the need of the hour to provide temporary shelter, integrated government services and address violence faced by women.
