SHILLONG: The lone Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) legislator, Adelbert Nongrum, has slammed the ruling NPP for the alleged misuse of power during the just concluded district council polls.

Taking part in the debate on governor’s address in the Assembly on Monday, Nongrum pulled up the election officials for being lackadaisical during the recently concluded council elections.

He pointed to the recent viral video clip showing Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar asking voters to leave the queue who are not in favour of his candidate on the polling date.

However, Dhar had claimed recently that though he was present, he did not interfere in the election matters.

Nongrum also spoke about an incident that took place in Wahingdoh, when his party men caught NPP workers with cash on the eve of the elections. “Where were the election officers? We want justice,” he added.

Border dispute

Nongrum termed the continuous monitoring of inter-state border dispute as a lie.

He also wanted to know what sort of monitoring is being done in the border areas. In this connection, he has sought clarification from the state government.

He also raised concern over the Meghalaya Teachers’ Eligibility Test, the question paper for which was leaked recently.
