TURA: Sitting GHADC MDC from Darugre ( Rongjeng) constituency in East Garo Hills who last year quit the NPP over denial of party ticket for the state elections has joined the Congress.
Mettrinson G Momin, who also happens to be the deputy chairman of GHADC joined the Congress party in presence of former chief minister Mukul Sangma at Rongjeng on Thursday.
Along with him, two former candidates from Rongjeng, Janseng Marak and Raphius Marak, who were defeated in the last assembly polls also joined the Congress.
All three had unsuccessfully contested the 2018 elections only to be defeated by NPP candidate Jim M Sangma.
The Songsak MLA and former chief minister has been nominated as the Congress candidate for the Tura Lok Sabha seat. He will take on two time MP Agatha K Sangma of the NPP.
Congress candidate Mukul Sangma has begun his election campaign with visits to several assmebly constituencies that make up the Tura Lok Sabha seat. He held a meeting in Rongjeng, a constituency currently held by the NPP, to mobilise supporters of the Congress.
” We are aware of his (Mettrinson) joining the Congress. He had already resigned from the NPP last year and became an Independent MDC after denial of ticket by our party that nominated Jim Sangma who went on to win the assembly seat for us,” said GHADC chairman and Williamnagar MDC Denang T Sangma.
