SHILLONG: The Election Commission has intensified its vigil across the state to prevent use of money during the poll process as cash seizures have crossed the Rs 25-lakh mark ahead of the Lok Sabha elections on April 11.
Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor on Wednesday said that three teams of flying squads and static surveillance have been deployed per constituency all over the state.
Besides, the income tax department is also keeping an eye on suspicious transactions in banks across the state.
Kharkongor also said that people can use the C-Vigil app if they come across any violation of the model code of conduct or distribution of money.
Many people have in fact used the app and posters and banners of prominent personalities were removed from different locations after they uploaded the videos through the app.
It may be mentioned that the first seizure of Rs 20 lakh was reported from South West Khasi Hills on March 16 followed by seizure of Rs 3 lakh on March 20 from Ampati.
Later on Sunday, Rs 1 lakh was seized from Ampati again followed by seizure of another Rs 2.5 lakh in East Garo Hills on Tuesday.
The money was recovered mostly from vehicles by flying squads and members of the static surveillance team.
Police also seized a large quantity of liquor from Mawryngkneng in East Khasi Hills district a few days back.
