Eminent Manipuri dancer no more

Shillong: Eminent Classical Manipuri Dance exponent and teacher, Guru Hari Charan Sinha, expired on April 8 at the age of 85 at NEIGRIHMS, Shillong. Born on June 29, 1934, Sinha, through his lifelong dedication and sacrifice, had established the North Eastern Dance Academy in Shillong under the affiliation of Sangeet Natak Akademi of New Delhi in 1983 for the young learners to learn and master under his tutelage the Classical Manipuri Dance, one of the finest classical dance forms of the North East. He was a disciple of the legendary Manipuri Dance exponent, Guru Atomba Singh, who was invited by Tagore to teach Manipuri dance in Shantiniketan.
