Sanbor in trouble for talking to media inside polling station

SHILLONG: The Presiding officer and  Returning officer of the Shillong Parliamentary constituency has filed an FIR against  BJP Candidate Sanbor Shullai for misconduct inside the polling station  during the polling here on Thursday.

Chief Electoral Officer, FR Kharkongor said the Returning Officer was asked by the Election Commission to ascertain the case which happened in a polling station in Shillong Constituency.

Based on the report of the Returning Officer, an FIR was filed against Shullai under Section 132 of the RP Act for misconduct in the polling station.

Kharkongor said that there was a communication gap and the candidates were not  supposed to give Press conference inside the polling stations and their conducts were expected to be in order and peaceful

The incident was reported after Sanbor Shullai spoke to media persons inside the polling station.

Meanwhile, Special SP (CID) R Muthu said that it was a cognizable offence and the matter would be investigated

Informing that it was a bailable incident, he informed that under the Act, if a person is found to be guilty, he can be sentenced to an imprisonment for 3 months or fined or both.

Meanwhile, Kharkongor  also informed that  the Election Commission had directed that the  cost of the vehicle which was used by BJP  MLA and Cabinet Minister, AL Hek while campaigning for party candidate in Jaintia Hills  will be charged into the expenditure of the candidate and the party for which he was campaigning for.

It may be mentioned that the Election Commission recently found AL Hek of violating model code of conduct after he used an official vehicle while campaigning for the party candidate, Sanbor Shullai in Jaintia Hills during the campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections.
