SHILLONG: Amid  dissension between the administration of NEHU Tura campus and the North Eastern Hills University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) office bearers, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has warned non-tribals staying in Meghalaya to refrain from making racist statements.

In a statement issued here, the general secretary of KSU, Donald Thabah said the union extends its support to the NEHUSU while also expressing concern over the ill-treatment of the NEHUSU by the administration of NEHU Tura campus on April 7 and 8.

The KSU said the NEHU Tura administration should arrange facilities for the NEHUSU’s stay in the campus and for the Tura NEHU administration was to have discussions with them on the general condition of the campus.

The KSU also condemned the high handedness of the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the NEHU Tura campus in which he had refused to meet them and made racial statements, apparently hinting towards the Khasi community.

“On this note, the KSU warns non-tribals staying in Meghalaya which includes the Pro Vice-Chancellor of NEHU Tura campus. If there has been any racist statement made against the Khasi community, the union will not sit idle but will chase them out of the state,” Thabah said.

It may be mentioned that the pro-VC of NEHU Tura allegedly said, “I do not want to shake the hands of your kind of people” to the NEHUSU.

The KSU also condemned the eve-teasing incident and demanded from the NEHU administration to punish them.

They also condemned the high-handedness of the Proctor in which he threatened the NEHUSU office bearers and snatched their Identity cards.

Further, the union also took serious note of Proctor who asked the NEHUSU to leave the campus but to allow the president to stay alone in the University Guest House.

The KSU argued that the Pro VC does not have any sense of responsibility towards improving the university.

On the FIRs filed by the warring parties, the NEHU Tura campus and the NEHUSU, the KSU said the NEHU permanent campus should intervene into the internal matter which sends a bad signal on the reputation of the university.
