SHILLONG: Congress legislator P T Sawkmie has petitioned the Chief Secretary to provide relief to the people affected by natural calamities. “The state has been affected by thunderstorm and heavy rain in the past few days which have caused damages to schools, houses, churches, farmers and others in parts of Jaintia Hills, West Khasi Hills and Garo Hills”, Sawkmie said in his letter. He urged the chief secretary to view the issue seriously by sanctioning relief to all the affected families. “The BDOs concerned from various Blocks have done their job in assessing the damages caused by the storm. In this regard, relief to those affected families is very much appreciated”, he said.
According to Sawkmie, the state government should extend financial assistance and support to those family members who have been affected.
