TURA: In a bid to ensure worm-free and healthy future for our children in future, the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills District Ram Singh launched the National De-Worming Day (NDD) at St. Xavier’s School Tura on Tuesday which will be implemented throughout the district on April 25, next where all the adolescent from 1 to 19 years of age will be given de-worming tablet through the platform of Schools and Aganwadi Centres.
It may be mentioned that the mop round will be held on April 30 next for those children who missed the de-worming tablet on 25th April, 2019.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh urged all the parents and guardians to avail the opportunity and bring their children to their respective schools and aganwadi centres for de-worming and ensure worm-free future for our children.
In her keynote address, District Maternal and Child Health Officer, West Garo Hills, Dr. Ivonne M Sangma said that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has estimated 241 million children between the age of 1 to 14 years are at risk of parasitic infected worms in India mainly caused by poor sanitation and hygiene which results in affecting children’s physical and cognitive development and long term negative impact on their work potential in adulthood. She also mentioned about the objectives of the programme and necessary precaution to be taken to stay fit and healthy in future.
