NONGPOH: Strange but true, the State Government created the office of Ri Bhoi District Transport Officer (DTO) without sanctioning any official posts of its own despite attainment of 18 long years as a district.

This came to light when a delegation of Ri Bhoi DSC Passed Candidates Association led by its vice president Bathewlang Syngkli met the Transport Commissioner S N Marak at her office chamber last week as to enquire whether there is any vacancy lying pending in the office of the DTO at Nongpoh.

Syngkli informed that Marak told them the post of DTO Nongpoh is not a sanctioned post for Ri Bhoi but it is borrowed one from East Khasi Hills. He further said that there is no sanctioned post for UDA and LDA and all the staff posted at the DTO’s office at Nongpoh are actually sanctioned ones from East Khasi Hills.

The association comprises of 40 DSC Passed Candidates who are still waiting for appointment, the vice president informed. He also appealed to the State Government to do justice to them by giving them appointment at the earliest.
