NEHU holds cleanliness campaign

SHILLONG: The NEHU Students’ Union (NEHUSU) in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of NEHU and the National Service Scheme (NSS), NEHU unit, took up the clean-campus initiative on Wednesday, in which they organised the ‘Clean Nehu Campaign’ rally.
The sole purpose of the rally is to bring a change within the university campus by making it a litter-free and plastic-free zone.
The ceremony was flagged-off by the pro-vice chancellor Henry Lamin.
The rally was then followed by an interactive session among students in the presence of the chief guest P Nayak, who is also the registrar of the University.
The event was also graced by the presence of the Dean of Students’ Welfare, S Umdor; D Paul, Head of the Department, Environmental Studies and SS Chaturvedi.
The union also addressed suggestions to the administration to take active part in making this campaign a success, keeping note that it is the combined responsibility of all the inhabitants/ visitors of NEHU to maintain a healthy environment.
The union further urged the administration to impose a ban on polythene bags of lower grades that pose a threat to the environment not only within the campus, but outside, too.
The administration has also urged to construct a proper waste disposal management and also to constitute a joint committee/task force, comprising of the faculty members and the representative of NEHUSU, Rotaract Club of NEHU and NSS, NEHU unit, with a mandate to manage and mitigate the cleanliness of the campus.
