SHILLONG: The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) meeting held on Friday night failed to arrive at any conclusion after six MDCs withdrew support to the ruling coalition.
Though the 6 MDCs, who had resigned, turned up at the meeting, they have not changed their decision yet.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, KHADC CEM Teinwell Dkhar said, “It is a meeting to resolve the misunderstanding but the meeting did not reach a conclusion. Our discussion will still continue. We will meet again next week.”
The meeting was attended by all the ruling UDA coalition partners- the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) and Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) except Nassar Marwein, a UDP MDC who was unwell.
The PDA has 10 MDCs — 1 PDF, 2 Independents and 7 NPP. The RDA has 7 UDP MDCs and 2 HSPDP members.
The PDA and RDA formed the UDA.
With the resignation of six members, the strength of the PDA has been reduced to 13 in the House of 29 members.
The KHADC chief said the differences in the UDA will be resolved.
The meeting discussed about Rs 52 crore sanctioned by the central government under special assistance grant. The MDCs wanted Rs 1 core reach instead of the current allotment of Rs 50 lakh.
When asked as to why no decision was taken even when all MDCs, including the 6 disgruntled members were present, PDA MDC PN Syiem said, “This is only a discussion. We will meet again next week.”
Three Executive Members (EMs)- NPP MDCs Mitchell Wankhar, Victor Ranee and People’s Democratic Front (PDF) Macdalyn Mawlong submitted their resignation on Tuesday.
Besides the EMs, chairpersons of the advisory committees, independent MDCs Latiplang Kharkongor, Lambor Malngiang and NPP MDC Gigur Myrthong had also quit their respective posts on the same day.
The six MDCs had maintained that there were no collective responsibilities in the UDA.
