SHILLONG: Several organizations under the banner of Social Organisations of Meghalaya Against Land Alienation (SOMALA) have asked the State Government to revoke the allotment of land to civil servants in the New Shillong township.
In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma here on Monday, the SOMALA also questioned the move of the government to allot land to the Civil Service Officers Housing Cooperative Society Ltd, formed the civil servants.
It may be mentioned that the CAG in its report termed the move as “unauthorized”.
“We urge the government to derecognise the society as we consider it to be bogus,” the memorandum added.
According to SOMALA, they were convinced that the civil service officers formed the society with the agenda to circumvent the land laws (Meghalaya Transfer of Land (Regulation) Act, 1971).
As per the report, the land provided was in excess of what was prescribed while an incorrect assessment of the value of the land led to short realisation of revenue.
