SHILLONG: Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek on Tuesday said he would approach the Central Board of School Education (CBSE) to set up a centre for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) in Garo Hills.
In the absence of a centre, several students from Garo Hills had to come to Shillong on Sunday for the examination.
Adding to the trouble, many students from there were not allowed to sit for the exams here despite possessing necessary documents.
Some students claimed in the social media that many of them were not allowed to sit for the examinations despite the fact that they came all the way from Garo Hills and had all the requisite documents including admit card. They said students were asked for additional documents like the EPIC
is issued to only those who are 18 and above.
Hek, however, said that the NEET examinations are conducted by the CBSE and the state government has no role to play.
“They are our students and if they approach us with any complaints, we will definitely take necessary steps,” he said.
Stating that the state should have more centres like other North Eastern states, which have three-four centres each, he added that he will soon take up the matter with the CBSE to set up some more in Meghalaya and particularly in Garo Hills which has none.
