Agartala: A Third Front as a viable alternative to the present political situation in the country was not an overnight proposition, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar assumed on Monday.
He, however, said people had lost faith in two major political parties – Congress and BJP and influence of regional parties in Indian polity were increasing day by day.
Taking a dig at the Centre, he said the initiative to form NCTC emerged against the federal structure of the country and added by installing NCTC, the government was trying to give more power to the central security forces.
Referring to the present political scenario in West Bengal, Sarkar said, “Time has not come to draw conclusion or comment on the performance of the government but the people who were instrumental for bringing change in the state they are now unhappy.”
Manik Sarkar, however, stated that efforts had been made to destroy democratic foundation and to stop the voice of opposition in West Bengal. Transferring powers of Panchayats to government officials, reform initiative in education system and absence of attention to farming community would prove to be detrimental in the long run for West Bengal.
