SHILLONG: The high-level committee (HLC), which was  constituted by the state government to find a permanent solution to the issue of relocating residents of Harijan Colony here, has given them a month’s time to submit their documents to the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB).
“ We are giving them one last opportunity to submit the documents,” HLC  chairman and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong Tynsong said on Friday. The residents have to submit the documents to the Chief Executive Officer of SMB.
The HLC has also asked the SMB to once again conduct an inventorization in the area and put up public notices for the purpose.
Tynsong told media persons after a meeting of the HLC that the public notices will be pasted on every dwelling unit in the area, including those of 128  employees of the Board.
The Committee met on Friday after almost four months.
Tynsong said when the exercise was conducted last time most of the settlers, including the 128  employees of the board, did not cooperate and their details could not be ascertained.
When asked how much more time the committee would take to submit its recommendations, he said the committee wants to have a permanent solution to the problem and it could not be solved overnight.
It may be mentioned the HLC has been tasked with examining all relevant records and documents relating to the relocation of residents of the Harijan Colony.
The committee will also recommend practically feasible solution(s) for relocation of the residents.
