SHILLONG: The upcoming week will be full of pre-monsoon weather activities with varying intensities across the North East, including Meghalaya, but even then, the rain deficiency of the region will remain.
States like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya will witness more rain while, only scattered weather activities will occur in parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim.
However, with rain, only marginal improvement will be seen.
It may be mentioned that usually 40 per cent of the rainfall during this season is recorded only from this region, with Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and Meghalaya contributing the most.
After the arrival of severe cyclonic storm Fani, winds have changed direction and continuous rains are being witnessed by the northeastern states of India which has led to slight reduction in the deficiency.
It may be mentioned that the entire 2018, including winters, pre-monsoon, monsoon as well as post-monsoon seasons have seen large deficiencies in terms of rains.
Last good season was the post monsoon season of 2017, i.e. between October and December wherein most of the Northeastern states witnessed heavy rain.
Meanwhile, the IMD website said that the cyclonic circulation over east Bihar & neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level now lies over East Bihar and adjoining Jharkhand extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level.
It says that moderate rain and thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya and at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
The IMD website also warned that thunderstorm with gusty wind speed (30-40) KMPH and lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in the next two days.
