Kohima: The Aggrieved Teachers’ Association Nagaland (ATAN) has threatened to resume their indefinite hunger strike if the government fails to redress their grievances by immediately acting upon the report submitted by the Verification Committee, before April 10 next.

In a representation signed by Vikato Swu, Convenor, and Limayanger Secretary of ATAN to Nagaland Chief Secretary yesterday stated that the Verification Committee in the district level was constituted to physically visit all the schools, Village Education Committees and Village Education Management Boards and also verify the physical presence and attendance of the retained and regularized bogus teachers and it was directed that the Committee would submit its report to the Commissioner and Secretary, School Education and SCERT on or before February 10 last.

The ATAN informed that the said Committee conducted the verification in accordance with the direction contained in the said notification and reports were submitted to the Commissioner and Secretary, School Education and SCERT within the stipulated time. ‘It is also a fact that the Commissioner and Secretary, School Education and SCERT, has forwarded the said report for decision of the Cabinet. However, the Government is sitting over the matter and it appears that it has no intention of taking up the matter, as is evident from the fact that the matter was never considered by the Cabinet despite several Cabinet sittings having been held since the submission of the report,’ the stated, adding ‘Under such circumstances, we, as innocent victims’ cannot keep on waiting and suffering indefinitely.’ The Association requested the Chief Secretary to act immediately upon the report submitted by the Verification Committee in the interest of justice and fairness.
