Hailakandi administration appeals for peace, communal harmony during Eid

GUWAHATI: The Hailakandi district administration has called for maintaining peace and communal harmony during the observance of the ensuing Eid-ul-Fitr. 

In a meeting convened by the district administration at DC’s conference hall here on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli appealed to the Muslim community to observe the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr peacefully. 

She said Eid is an occasion to rejoice as well as to promote communal harmony, love, tolerance and compassion with other communities. She hoped the festivity would be the harbinger of peace, progress and development in the district. 

“Let bygones be bygones and let us all rise in unison and work together to help build bridges of understanding, unity and amity and brotherhood among different communities to take Hailakandi district along the path of peace, progress and prosperity in the days ahead,” said Jalli.

Religious leaders, eminent citizens, political leaders, organisations and media persons present in the meeting thanked the Deputy Commissioner for convening the meeting and assured to cooperate with the administration in ensuring smooth and peaceful observance of Eid.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, EL Faihriem, Additional Deputy Commissioner, RK Dham and Superintendent of Police, Mohneesh Mishra were also present. 

Tension was prevailing in Hailakandi till recently following communal clashes that occurred in the district headquarter town. The district and the town had remained under curfew for several days.
