TURA: A trader from Haat Singimari town under Dhubri district of Assam is suspected to have been kidnapped after he went missing from Dimapara village of Dalu region in West Garo Hills.
The trader Shamsul Haque was a trader dealing in arecanut and reportedly visited Dimapara village to purchase a consignment of the Garo Hills product when he disappeared this week.
Police sources say that two men in a motorbike took him away to show their consignment and never returned. The driver of the vehicle alerted the family of the trader after he failed to return to the spot where the vehicle had been stationed to take him back with the consignment to Assam.
There were similar incidents in the past in Garo Hills.
Sources said that the spurt in kidnapping was following the vacuum created by GNLA. According to the police, efforts are being made to ensure that the surrendered militants do not take advantage of the vulnerable situation.
