SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has claimed that the implementation of the JNNURM projects in the State is much better in comparison to other States in the country.
“In fact, the State ranked sixth among the top ten states in the country as far implementation of JNNURM projects is concerned,” Lyngdoh said here on Tuesday.
She said the States who have impressed the most while implementing the centrally sponsored scheme are Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
According to her, the State is doing better when compared to big States like Odisha and Assam.
While admitting that the things were not encouraging during the initial year of implementation of the scheme, Ampareen said, “There has been a huge improvement in the subsequent years of implementation of the scheme.”
“The Centre is also happy with the progress of the various projects under the scheme which are being implemented in the State,” she said.
Majority of the projects — including storm drainage system, low cost housings units — have been completed, she said adding “The progress of Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWWS) Phase -III, which is funded under JNNURM, is also very encouraging”.
Lyngdoh, however, informed that the Centre has issued a fresh deadline of 2014 for completion of all the JNNURM projects.
