11 hurt as fire breaks out in MTC building

SHILLONG: A fire broke out at the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) Annexe Building at 3 am on Sunday leaving 11 persons injured.
They were injured while trying to jump off the building on noticing smoke billowing out of the ground floor.
When contacted, a police official said the fire was due to a short circuit electrical wiring on the ground floor.
However, the guests at the first and second floors of the Swastik Hotel panicked and jumped off the building.
“The fire was quite strong at the bottom and the smoke went up. However, the fire was put off within one hour. The guests panicked due to the smoke and jumped off the building,” the official said.
The injured included four women, two children and five men. The four injured women are Pooja Das, Paromita Saha, Ratna Saha and Uma Rai Saha Pal.
The two injured children are Arghyajit Saha and Nilakshya Pal while the five men who sustained injuries are Narayan Saha, Mukut Choudhury, Kanishka Sam, Madhusudan Saha and Dulal Chandra Pal.
