SHILLONG: Rimpu Marak, former ANVC-B rebel leader has challenged the government and administration alleging that the police are missing the definition of ‘illegal’ teer counters.
He said that NGOs like FKJGP, GSU, ADE, AYWO and the illegal archery associations are forcing illegal teer counters to run under the ones registered under Bawil Dawil.
The Bawil Dawil agents have registered a complaint that these NGOs are forcing the teer counters to pay tax to them in place of the government. Otherwise, they are threatened of dire consequences and ouster from Garo Hills.
He asserted that as per the law, no counters can be set up within 1000 feet from worshipping places and educational institutions, however almost all the counters are set up within the given limit.
He alleged that one of his employees was assaulted by the NGO members when he was into inspecting the Bawil Dawil counters running illegal business.
“I want the government to explain the definition of legal and illegal teer counters within a week by closing down all counters within 1000 feet from educational institutions and worshipping places,” Marak said.
