SHILLONG: Health care services in the city are likely to suffer on Monday with hospitals and doctors extending support to the 24-hour strike called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to protest against the brutal attacks on doctors in West Bengal recently.
Woodland Hospital, in a statement issued here, said that it stands in solidarity with the IMA over the strike call.
It said that OPD and diagnostic services will remain closed from 6 am on Monday to 6 am on Tuesday. However, emergency services will remain open.
Similarly, NEIGRIHMS Resident Doctors’ Association (NRDA) has written to the Director of the hospital on the 24-hour strike.
The strike will cover OPD/routine OTs/wards but exempt emergency services.
In a separate statement, the Nazareth Hospital authorities expressed concern on the rise of lawlessness rather than the rule of law. The hospital has urged the government to take stringent steps to ensure safety of its residents.
The IMA has declared withdrawal of non-essential services during the period of strike and has urged the state hospitals to support them in the protest.
The IMA has condemned the brutal attack on the young doctor and vandalism of hospitals and demanded a central law against violence in hospitals.
