SHILLONG: At a time when there are claims by UDP about Congress MLAs sending feelers to switch allegiance, the All India Congress Committee has deputed its general secretary, in-charge Northeastern states, Luizinho Faleiro to visit Shillong on Thursday.
When contacted on phone, Faleiro downplayed the expansion of BJP in the North East and the issues related to desertions by the Congress MLAs.
Giving examples, Faleiro said the vote share of the Congress in Meghalaya and other Northeastern states has increased significantly.
To a question on the formation of non-Congress governments in all the Northeastern states, he said, “That is an old thing, we have made significant improvement in our vote share in the Lok Sabha elections in the Northeast”, he said.
As per the itinerary, Faleiro will thank the people of Meghalaya for their support to Congress in the last Lok Sabha elections and hold discussions with Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) on re-organisation of District Congress Committees and Block Congress Committees. Faleiro will also attend a Congress Legislature Party meet on Thursday night and hold discussions with PCC to discuss reorganisation. He will also meet the party MDCs.
