TURA: A one day seminar under the theme ‘Inventory and Revival of Springs in the Catchment Areas for Water Security’ was organized recently by the Tura Christian College (TCC) in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board, Shillong at its college premises.
The one day seminar was attended by C P Marak, IFS (PCCF & HoFF), Principal Secretary in charge Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Chairman, MSPCB, Shillong as the Chief Guest.
Speaking to the gathering on the occasion,the Chief Guest reiterated that the key to water security lies in the hands of the people of the state and the paradigm shift of the government’s role from being provider of centrally engineered solutions to facilitator in development of community based projects.
It may be mentioned that the TCC, as one of its main objectives and vision, though in its nascent stage of establishment, felt the need to bring all the stakeholders onboard to share a common forum to deliberate and bring about a sense of responsibility to deliberate on the topic, which is one of the pressing issues of contemporary life today.Research scholars, from the field and its allied areas presented their papers during the technical session of the programme which was attended by citizens, research scholars, students and A∙king Nokmas.
